Looking for a fun & educational summer adventure for your tween or teen? Whether they are born debaters or struggle with confidence in public speaking, your kids will love Debate Camp!

Debate Cam p Overnight Program is a sleepaway camp for kids in grades 7 - 11 located at the beautiful Pacific ocean-side campus of Brentwood College in Mill Bay, BC on Vancouver Island. Debate Camp is well known for its balanced approach to learning. Academic activities such as debating and public speaking are blended with opportunities for thematic fun and improv-type games. Debate Camp is celebrating over 20 years of summer camps built on the foundation that public speaking should be a fun experience and not be intimidating for kids. They carefully create a welcoming environment with just the right level of challenge for all campers. Campers will learn analysis, critical thinking, collaboration, connection, creativity, delivery, and respect!

Highlights of Debate Camp overnight Program

This is a 6 day / 6 night program running from July 28- August 3rd, 2024
Campers will stay at the beautiful Pacific ocean-side campus of Brentwood College in Mill Bay, BC on Vancouver Island.
Debate Camp is well known for its balanced approach to learning. Academic activities such as debating and public speaking are blended with opportunities for thematic fun and improv-type games.
Recreation times and swim outings are available each day and camp-wide games each evening (often concluding with a campfire).
Cultural outings and local sightseeing opportunities are also offered.

As parents of teens, we know you have questions, so we were happy to hear that campers at Debate Camp are housed in comfortable, gender-separate dorms with Debate Camp Program Staff housed on each floor. Rooms are furnished for 2 occupants and roommate requests are available. Camper roommate pairings are otherwise determined by age group. For our allergy & food-sensitive teens, we were glad to know that food service allows for a selection of options at each meal. And that dietary requests can be accommodated with advance notice.

Debate Camp teaches and develops camper skills in parliamentary debate. Campers work in teams to generate ideas in support of, or in refutation of a selection of debatable topics (new each day).

Model United Nations is introduced after speaking & debating skills development is underway. Campers take on the role of select countries & try to solve a fictional world problem.

Summer fun

Debate Camp makes sure that kids can be kids! Recreation times and swim outings are available each day and they schedule camp-wide games each evening usually topped off with a campfire.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT DEBATE CAMP!

We love that ALL are welcome at the overnight Debate Camp, from the novice, reluctant speaker to the already-competitive debater. Grade 7-11 students are divided into groups so that each camper can thrive & develop their skills.

OPEN PROGRAM: Built for true beginners. There are 2 or 3 groups of Open Program campers at each camp, often further divided by age group - to ensure that older campers still feel comfortable at the novice level.

PLUS PROGRAM: Built for campers who are familiar with debating and may have some experience from previous summers or at school. They may have also shown interest and enjoyed success in public speaking.

LEVEL UP PROGRAM: Built for campers who know how to debate, either parliamentary or public-forum style. They may have attended in previous summers or are a regular part of a debating program at their school.
