With just a few simple ingredients and a pinch of creativity, you can transform ordinary bananas into spooky, chilly delights. Whether it's for a Halloween party or a regular non-spooky afternoon, these frozen treats are a ghostly good time waiting to happen. We enjoy them all year coated with nuts, dried fruit, granola, or just as they are! As these work best with thicker yogurt, we use siggi’s skyr.

WHAT on earth IS SKYR?

In simple terms, skyr is a thick and creamy dairy product that's a lot like Greek yogurt, but it comes from Iceland and has some important differences.

Skyr is made by taking milk and adding special bacteria to it. These bacteria make the milk thicken and become creamy. After that, they strain away the watery part, leaving behind a very thick, yogurt-like product.  Skyr is even thicker and has a milder taste than Greek yogurt. It's also higher in protein and lower in fat compared to many Greek yogurts.  So, in short, skyr is like a cousin of Greek yogurt from Iceland. It's super thick, really creamy, and a great source of protein! We love that siggi’s skyr is made with simple ingredients and not a lot of sugar.

The story of siggi’s is a simple case of nostalgia turning into a brilliant creation. siggi’s began in 2005 when Siggi Hilmarsson felt homesick for a staple of his childhood diet: skyr. (The thick, creamy, high-protein yogurt from his native Iceland.) The yogurts he found on shelves in the U.S. were much too sweet and artificial tasting for his liking. Using a recipe Siggi’s mother sent, he began making skyr in his small New York City kitchen. It tasted like home. Within just a few months, Siggi quit his day job, bought a whole lot of dairy equipment, and siggi’s was born. We absolutely agreed with siggi’s that life is better with fewer distractions and more time spent on the moments that matter.

GHOSTS AND MUMMIES FROZEN TREATS

Spooky healthy treat for Halloween!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup siggi’s Vanilla yogurt

  • 1/4 cup whole milk or cream

  • 6 bananas, halved

  • 12 frozen treat sticks

  • mini chocolate chips

instructions:
  1. Whisk together the yogurt and milk in a bowl.

  2. Insert a frozen treat stick in each half of the bananas then place in the freezer for about an hour. This will make the dipping into the yogurt much easier.

  3. Dip the frozen bananas into the yogurt, making sure it’s well coated.

  4. To create the ghosts, use mini chocolate chips or melted chocolate to create eyes and/or mouth.

  5. To make the mummies, place the treats back into the freezer for about an hour. Then drizzle with more yogurt then decorate with eyes. Keep the treats in the freezer until ready to serve.

Enjoy!
